Qatar chief Hassan al-Thawadi rejects calls to move 2022 World Cup

Hassan al-Thawadi insists that the 2022 World Cup should not be moved to winter as the "commitment is there".

The head of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Hassan al-Thawadi, has insisted that the tournament should not be moved, despite concerns from FIFA.

The world governing body is believed to be trying to move the competition to winter in order to prevent teams from playing in the hot conditions during the summer months.

"We've worked very, very hard to ensure we're within the rules of the bidding, within the rules of the hosting agreement," Al-Thawadi told BBC Sport.

"At the same time we're delivering on all the promises that we've made. We're working very hard to deliver it. The commitment is there."

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke also backed the move if a suitable time to play matches could not be agreed between all parties.
