Cardiff City ease to win over Wolverhampton Wanderers

Goals from Kenwyne Jones and Sammy Ameobi earn Cardiff City a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Cardiff City have eased to a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers thanks to goals from Kenwyne Jones and Sammy Ameobi.

Wolves had an opportunity as early as the fourth minute when Sheyi Ojo pulled the ball back for David Edwards, but the midfielder could only direct his shot off target.

Cardiff registered their first shot on goal when Joe Mason tested Carl Ikeme, recalled in place of Emiliano Martinez, from a tight angle before back up the other end, Ojo set up Edwards again with the Welshman volleying wide.

The home side had a goal disallowed just before the half-hour mark when Mason was adjudged to have kicked the ball out of the hands of Ikeme, although replays suggested that the decision was harsh on the forward.

As the first half drew to a close, Ethan Ebanks-Landell headed over for the visitors, but a minute before the interval, Jones headed into an empty net after Ikeme had misjudged a floated cross from the left.

After the restart, neither side looked likely to score, but on the hour mark, Ameobi netted his first Bluebirds goal a minute after replacing Jones when he was on hand to convert from close range after being set up by Kagisho Dikgacoi.

Former Newcastle man Ameobi was soon after his second, cutting inside the defender before firing a shot wide of the post, but his failure to make it a double didn't impact on the result as Wolves failed to come close to halving the deficit.
