Patrick Cutrone opens up on 'frightening' coronavirus battle

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Patrick Cutrone reveals how he was left frightened after contracting the coronavirus.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Patrick Cutrone has admitted that he was left frightened after contracting the coronavirus.

Cutrone, who is one of 15 Serie A players to have contracted COVID-19, was diagnosed on March 14 - six days after featuring in a 0-0 draw against Udinese.

The 22-year-old was given the all clear by doctors on April 5 and is now recovering in Florence.

"At the beginning of March, I had symptoms like a high temperature and a sore throat. Then I took a test and I realised it was coronavirus," the Italian striker told The Sun.

"At the beginning I was frightened. This is a sneaky virus that nobody knows so I was worried for myself, for my relatives and for my teammates. After the first few days, the situation slowly improved.

"At the end, when doctors told me the result was negative, I was relieved because this nightmare was off my back."

After signing for Wolves in 2019, Cutrone was loaned out to Fiorentina in January, playing seven times before the season was indefinitely suspended due to the global pandemic.
