Tony Pulis defends cautious approach

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis says that his cautious approach is right for the club.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Tony Pulis has stated that his cautious brand of football is right for the club.

The Baggies have kept 15 clean sheets in the calendar year, more than any side in the Premier League, although they have been criticised by some observers for a lack of attacking flair.

However, Pulis has suggested that, if he were managing one of Europe's top clubs, his style would naturally change.

"Not conceding is the basis I've always managed on, ever since I started in management," he told the Birmingham Mail. "A team has to have a foundation.

"The other thing you have to recognise is the clubs you work at - the level you're at and the level you're not at. If I was managing Real Madrid it might be different, with all their flair players you could say you could out score teams and not worry too much about being defensive.

"It's what you've got to work with and getting the best out of what you've got."

West Brom are currently 12th in the Premier League table.
