Swansea City boss Garry Monk has mixed feelings about possible Europa League bid

Swansea City boss Garry Monk admits that qualifying for the Europa League would put a strain on his squad.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that the team would struggle with the demands of the Europa League if they manage to qualify.

If the Welsh outfit finish seventh in the Premier League table and Arsenal beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup final, they will be handed a spot in the second-tiered European competition.

While Monk has admitted that it would be "exciting" to be in Europe, the 36-year-old is wary of the effects it could have on his squad following their campaign last year.

"What comes with that is plenty of work in the summer and we're already a small squad as it is," the South Wales Evening Post quotes Monk as saying.

"I'm very mindful of that experience last year, of being in there and how it affected us. It did. Outside of the bigger clubs it does affect your league form."

Swansea are currently four points behind seventh-placed Southampton.
