New Stoke City forward Benik Afobe says that manager Gary Rowett played a significant role in attracting him to the bet365 Stadium.

Benik Afobe has revealed that manager Gary Rowett played a major role in his decision to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers for Stoke City.

At the start of June, Afobe exited Bournemouth to join Wolves on a permanent basis but less than two weeks later, the forward has made the switch to the bet365 Stadium with Wolves making a profit on their previous deal.

The transfer means that Afobe will feature in the second tier next season, but the new Potters arrival has said that he is excited to play under Rowett.

The 25-year-old is quoted by Stoke-on-Trent Live as saying: "The manager is probably the main reason why I'm signing, to be honest. He's very ambitious; he's got a project going on here and I want to be a big part of it.

"What he told me made me feel very comfortable – I believe in what he is trying to achieve and I want to help us get back where we belong. The manager clearly believes in me and that's something that every player wants. I'm hoping I can repay him by scoring some goals and helping the team win games."

During the second half of the last campaign, Afobe netted six times in 16 outings to help Wolves to the Championship title.
