Southampton terminate the contract of midfielder Steve de Ridder by mutual consent.

Midfielder Steve de Ridder has left Southampton by mutual consent.

The Belgian midfielder rarely featured for the first team at St Mary's Stadium last season, and the club have revealed that the 26-year-old has departed the club.

A club statement read: "Steve found opportunities limited upon the club's return to the Premier League last season, and subsequently spent time out on loan with Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.

"The 26-year-old was not a part of the first team's recent pre-season trips to Spain and Austria, featuring for the U21s at Eastleigh and Welling instead, where he started both games to maintain his match fitness.

"The club thanks Steve for his services over the last two seasons, and wishes him well with his future career."

De Ridder made 36 appearances for the Saints during his two years at the club.
