How Southampton could line up for their first game back

Sports Mole looks at how Southampton could line up for their first match back after lockdown, when they are expected to square off against Norwich City.

Southampton will head into their Premier League fixture with Norwich City looking to boost their chances of avoiding relegation to the Championship.

Although the Saints remain seven points clear of the bottom three, four defeats from five games mean that the South Coast outfit have been on a downward trajectory.

Nevertheless, at a time when there is only one absentee from the squad for the fixture with the Canaries, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be optimistic about his side's chances against their next opponents.

Ahead of that contest, Sports Mole takes a look at how Southampton could line up at Carrow Road.

Hasenhuttl will be without Moussa Djenepo for the trip to East Anglia after the winger picked up a straight red card against Newcastle United in the club's last match.

However, while that will keep the Malian on the sidelines until early July, Southampton are boosted by the return of Nathan Redmond.

After shaking off a muscular problem, the Englishman could be brought in as a like-for-like replacement for Djenepo, taking his place on the left flank for the game against his former side.

Despite the setback against the Magpies, Hasenhuttl may choose to stick with the majority of the players who started that contest, which would mean a two-man attack involving Shane Long and Danny Ings.

The only other switch may come at right-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters potentially being recalled to the team at the expense of Yan Valery.

While Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly prepared to allow the player to remain at Southampton on a permanent basis, he will need to be provided with game time over the coming weeks to pen a longer deal at his current team.
