Luis Enrique confirms Roma exit

Luis Enrique says that he does not have the time to recover the energy needed to take charge at Roma again next season.

Roma boss Luis Enrique has confirmed that he will leave the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

Rumours that the Spaniard was about to step down as head coach of the Giallorossi had surfaced earlier this week.

That speculation has now been confirmed by Enrique himself at a press conference ahead of their final game of the season against Cesena.

The 42-year-old stated his belief that the season had not been a complete failure, despite the team not qualifying for Europe.

"I've given everything this season. I don't think I'll be able to recover my energy over the summer - not the energy needed to motivate a group," said Enrique. "I definitely won't be coaching next season, though I don't know if I'd even have had any offers.

"I'm a very passionate person and this has been a marvellous adventure. Tough, yes, and I used up all my energy trying to reach a target. But when we were three or four games away we came up short. I don't think the season has been a complete failure."

Enrique arrived at Roma last summer, signing a two-year contract.
