Teddy Sheringham appointed manager of Atletico de Kolkata

Former Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham is confirmed as the new head coach of Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata.

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has been named head coach of Indian Super League club Atletico de Kolkata.

The 51-year-old replaces Spaniard Jose Francisco Molina, who last year led ATK to their second title in three years in his only season as manager.

ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka told a press conference: "I am glad to welcome our new coach Teddy Sheringham to the ATK family and strongly believe that it is going to be an enriching experience for him and the boys.

"Our endeavour to retain expertise and map out a compact team structure has been enhanced with Sheringham joining the team this season. One of the top goal scorers and an exceptional player himself, I am hopeful Teddy will bring his fine planning skills to lead the way for ATK."

Sheringham, meanwhile, added: "I am excited to be joining ATK and can't wait to get started. Mr Sanjiv Goenka has told me about the Indian Super League and it seems like a great place to follow your football dreams and ambitions."

The 51-year-old, who won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Red Devils, most recently managed League Two side Stevenage.
