La Liga president: '8-10 matches will be fixed this year'

La Liga president Javier Tebas believes that eight to 10 matches in the top two tiers of Spanish football will be fixed this season.

Eight to 10 matches in the top two tiers of Spanish football will be fixed this season, the La Liga president has said.

Javier Tebas revealed his fears at a conference of football executives where he also unveiled plans to impose life bans on players and officials involved in match-fixing.

"Many people try to fix many more games than those eight to 10," AP quotes him as saying.

The fight against match-fixing was helped by the arrest last month of 14 people in Singapore, including Dan Tan, who allegedly co-ordinated a global crime syndicate that rigged Italian matches and other games across the world.
