Rene Girard claims that Montpellier "played well" against Paris Saint-Germain despite their 1-0 loss.

Montpellier coach Rene Girard believes that his side "played well" against Paris Saint-Germain on Friday.

The defending French champions conceded a late goal to go down 1-0 to PSG away from home in Ligue 1.

"We played to our strengths and gave it our all, fighting for everything," he told reporters. "We conceded after a mistake in midfield. I'm very pleased with the way the lads played and we caused problems for PSG.

"We didn't win but we played well. I think there was the possibility there for us to win but I also sensed they had a chance of winning. You mustn't make a mistake against this sort of team and we made one."

Montpellier are currently seventh in the league table with 45 points from 30 matches.
