Inter Milan approach Manchester United to discuss a loan move for Harry Maguire before the end of the January window, according to a report.

Inter Milan have reportedly approached Manchester United to discuss a loan move for Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils captain lost his spot in the first XI following his disappointing start to the campaign, and he is currently fourth or fifth in the pecking order for the centre-back roles at Old Trafford.

Maguire played the full 90 minutes against Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday evening, but he has only started four Premier League matches this season.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have become Man United's first-choice centre-backs, while Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw also appear to be ahead of Maguire when it comes to the spots at the back.

According to the Daily Mail, Inter have contacted the 20-time English champions to discuss the possibility of taking the experienced defender on loan for the rest of the campaign.

However, the report claims that the 29-year-old wants to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on a possible move away from Old Trafford.

Milan Skriniar is set to join Paris Saint-Germain from Inter, which will put the Serie A giants in the market for a replacement, and they have also been linked with Maguire's teammate Lindelof.

Maguire is said to be willing to accept a rotational role this season but will seriously consider his future this summer if it becomes clear that there is no obvious route back into the first XI.

Speaking after Man United's 3-1 victory over Reading in the FA Cup, the former Sheffield United youngster said that he 'did not want to get used to' being a bit-part player.

"I am a player, 29 years old, I haven't been in this position in my career," he told ITV Sport. "It is a position I do not want to get used to.

"But it is part and parcel in football and I have been working hard every day. I am pushing, I am training well. And when my chance comes, I need to take it.

"We know at this club we need competition for places, we have some top centre-backs at this club. So, I think we are all going to be needed from now until the end of the season.

"I feel like I have looked after myself. I think it has been two-and-a-half weeks since my last start. I have been working hard in training.

"The lads who have been playing have done really well. So when I get the opportunity, I need to take it and make sure we win. It was nice to be out there and helping the lads and I am ready when my chance comes."

Maguire has played 159 times for Man United since his arrival from Leicester City in 2019, and he will be in line to start against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night providing that he does not leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
