Manchester United will reportedly have to shell out £15m if they want to part ways with head coach Erik ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag would reportedly receive £15m if Manchester United made the decision to sack him as their head coach.

The Dutchman officially arrived at Old Trafford ahead of the start of 2022-23, tasked with transforming a club that now face a battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League table.

A return to the Champions League was achieved last season, while United also won the EFL Cup and lost in the final of the FA Cup, but they remain a team that appears to be making little progress.

United currently sit in eighth position in the standings having won five and lost five of their 10 top-flight fixtures during 2023-24.

Each of their five successes - against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Brentford and Sheffield United - have been by one-goal margins.

However, the gulf in class to neighbours Manchester City was apparent on Sunday afternoon as the visitors to Old Trafford cruised to a 3-0 victory.

With United having also scored just 11 goals in the Premier League this season, question marks remain over whether Ten Hag is the right man to bring success.

According to The Mirror, though, it would cost as much as £15m if the Glazer Family opted to make a change in the dugout.

There is currently no indication that is a possibility in the near future, particularly when there are ongoing discussions regarding potential investment in the club.

Nevertheless, United officials are aware of the importance of remaining in the Champions League, with the revenue generated from that competition important with regards to their long-term finances at a time when there are issues with FFP.

United currently sit seven points adrift of the top five ahead of matches with Fulham, Luton Town and Everton, favourable-looking fixtures ahead of back-to-back contests with Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Ten Hag, who is said to be on a £9m-per-year deal, will hope that the upcoming triple-header provides them with a chance to stay within touching distance of the clubs above them.

Next up for United is a meeting with Newcastle in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday, a repeat of the final that they won at Wembley Stadium in February.
