How Manchester United could line up against Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Saturday's derby showdown with Manchester City as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer contends with a lengthy injury list.

Manchester United make the short trip across to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday as they look to record back-to-back wins over big-six rivals in the space of just three days.

Fresh from their 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, United visit Manchester City hoping to give their European hopes another boost with eight points separating them from the top four.

However, the Red Devils have not won successive league games since the beginning of March and take on a City side that knows any slip-up could see their ailing title hopes extinguished once and for all.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could set his side up for the trip to the home of the champions.

United's lengthy injury list leaves Solskjaer with limited options when it comes to changes from the win over Spurs, although there could still be a couple as he looks to keep his squad fresh.

One of the biggest decisions to make is whether to trust in youth in such a big game; on numerous occasions in the past we have seen such players step up to the plate when thrown in at the deep end - often playing with all of the raw emotion a derby should bring - but it is undoubtedly a risk.

Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams both fall into that category, although they have enjoyed growing top-flight experience in recent weeks and will know what to expect if called upon.

Of the United players deemed as doubtful, Nemanja Matic is the most likely to return having only narrowly missed out on the Tottenham game in midweek, with Marcos Rojo only an outside possibility and Paul Pogba having been ruled out by Solskjaer.

Anthony Martial missed the Spurs match after picking up a "slight injury" on Sunday and any appearance against City is likely to come from the bench, meaning that Marcus Rashford will once again shoulder the main goalscoring burden.

The England international has scored six goals in his last seven league games and already has nine for the season - just one short of his career best for a top-flight campaign.
