Louis van Gaal: 'Memphis Depay was too eager'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes that attacker Memphis Depay was "too eager" to impress on his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has indicated that he is not too concerned with Memphis Depay's low-key debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

Depay, who signed from PSV Eindhoven for a fee in the region of £25m, struggled to make an impact in United's 1-0 win, but Van Gaal believes that he will soon adapt to life in the Premier League.

The Dutchman is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I said to Memphis that he doesn't have to play too eagerly and with too much passion and that counts for the whole team. But it's always the same - the first time you play at Old Trafford, it's always difficult."

The 21-year-old scored 50 goals in 124 appearances during his time with PSV.
