Ryan Giggs 'would not want caretaker job'

A report claims that Ryan Giggs would not be interested in taking the Manchester United caretaker manager role if Louis van Gaal is sacked.

Ryan Giggs would reportedly not like to take on the role of caretaker manager again if Louis van Gaal is sacked by Manchester United before the end of the season.

The assistant manager was previously in interim charge at Old Trafford for a four-game spell in 2014 after David Moyes was relieved of duty but, according to a report in The Mirror, is "reluctant" to do likewise in the event of the Dutchman's departure.

Van Gaal's position at the club is looking tenuous again and crunch games in the Europa League against Danish minnows FC Midtjylland and the FA Cup at Shrewsbury Town in the coming weeks could prove decisive.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hotly tipped for the top job at United but Giggs, who spent his entire playing career with the club, is also thought to be in with a strong shout.

"Giggs believes it could be now or never for his own ambitions to be the club's manager," the newspaper claims. "The 42-year-old does not want to be seen as just filling in again and while he is fiercely loyal to United and Van Gaal, the former Wales international would be left with a huge dilemma."

United are currently fifth in the Premier League table, six points adrift of the Champions League places and with just three league wins in their last 13 games.
