Gary Neville tips Manchester United for second position

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville tips the Red Devils to finish second in the Premier League table this season.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has tipped the Red Devils to finish second in the Premier League table this season.

United dropped to second spot in the division when Liverpool beat West Ham United on Saturday, but reclaimed the position behind Manchester City with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho's side will welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in the Premier League on March 10, and Neville has said that the fixture between the two bitter rivals could play a huge role in determining which team claims the runners-up spot.

"I think United have to finish second to show progress from where they were. It still can't be classed as good enough, they had to win the league this year, but ultimately it is progression - but not good enough," Neville said on his podcast.

"From a point of view of second, I would say just United. I think United are stronger than the others and that they will finish second.

"In the interesting game is the one we've got in a couple of weeks, the Manchester United-Liverpool game at Old Trafford. That will go a long way to deciding it but I think United will come out on top overall this season."

Next up for United is a trip to Crystal Palace on March 5, while Liverpool will host Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
