Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur 'could qualify for Champions League ahead of Chelsea'

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could be handed spots in next season's Champions League if the season is not allowed to resume, according to a report.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly both be handed spots in next season's Champions League despite struggling to challenge for a top-four spot during the 2019-20 campaign.

The Gunners are currently ninth in the Premier League table, eight points off fourth-placed Chelsea, while Tottenham sit eighth, one point ahead of their bitter rivals with football at a standstill.

As it stands, it is not clear whether the 2019-20 season will be allowed to continue due to the coronavirus outbreak which has caused havoc with the sporting calendar.

According to The Sun, there is a possibility that coefficient scores could be used to decide which teams play in the European competitions during the 2020-21 campaign.

The format would see Arsenal join Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United in the top four, although Tottenham could be handed a Champions League spot if City are unable to overturn their two-year ban.

Chelsea, meanwhile, would be pushed into the Europa League as they are currently sixth in England's coefficient table, ahead of both Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
