Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says that the Scottish giants have missed out on signing Manchester City youngster Kean Bryan.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that the Scottish giants were unable to complete a deal for Manchester City youngster Kean Bryan.

A report suggested last week that Rangers were prepared to offer the 21-year-old a three-year contract, despite the player failing to make the breakthrough at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Gerrard has said that a potential transfer is off, with former Oldham Athletic loanee Bryan looking to keep his options open ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

The 38-year-old is quoted by BT Sport as saying: "Unfortunately we couldn't get an agreement with Kean. He wants to keep his options open and we respect that.

"You can see quite clearly that we need a centre-back so that is definitely an area that we are trying to add in. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later."

Rangers have previously been linked with Millwall's Jake Cooper and Bolton Wanderers' Mark Beevers.
