Manchester City captain Fernandinho is reportedly set to stay at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the season, ruling out a potential move in January.

Manchester City captain Fernandinho is reportedly set to stay at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the season, ruling out a potential move in January.

The 36-year-old, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.

Fernandinho's long-term future is unsurprisingly uncertain, though journalist Jorge Nicola, via Sports Witness, claims that a January exit is unlikely for the midfielder despite interest from Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro.

The report adds that Mineiro representatives recently made a trip to Manchester to hold talks with Fernandinho; however, the veteran expressed his desire to see out the remainder of his contract with Pep Guardiola's side.

Fernandinho has been a fantastic servant to Man City since joining the club from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013, making 365 appearances across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and registering 31 assists.

The 53-cap Brazil international has won a total of 13 domestic trophies with the Citizens, including four Premier League titles, but the midfielder will be hoping to get his hands on more silverware in the second half of the campaign.
