Football Association asks Pep Guardiola to explain Nathan Redmond exchange

The Football Association asks Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola to explain his animated exchanged with Nathan Redmond following the club's 2-1 victory over Southampton.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been asked by the Football Association to explain his post-match discussion with Southampton winger Nathan Redmond.

The Spaniard was seen in the midst of an animated exchange with Redmond on Wednesday night following City's 2-1 victory over the Saints, leading to speculation surrounding the meaning of the seemingly heated conversation between the pair.

According to Guardiola, the City boss had taken to the field after the final whistle in order to compliment Redmond on his abilities, in an exchange that saw the Spanish coach gesticulating wildly with his arms.

Meanwhile, the Southampton wide-man has claimed that Guardiola only had "positive" things to say about him, taking to social media to state: "He was very passionate, intense and aggressive - but he was only very complimentary and positive to me."

Guardiola now has until Monday to respond.
