Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

Luis Suarez scores to cancel out Steven Fletcher's first half goal and give Liverpool a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Liverpool and Sunderland are both still looking for their first win of the new Premier League season after drawing 1-1 at the Stadium of Light this afternoon.

Sunderland took the lead on the half-hour mark when Craig Gardner's cross found Steven Fletcher, allowing the home debutant to tap in his third goal in two games for the club.

Jack Colback almost doubled the lead towards the end of the first half after Sebastian Larsson found him with a pull back, but the midfielder couldn't convert the chance.

Liverpool began the second half in the ascendancy, and almost got the equaliser after five minutes when Glen Johnson's shot rattled off the crossbar.

In scenes reminiscent of last season, Liverpool once again hit the woodwork on the hour mark. Jonjo Shelvey found Steven Gerrard in the box but the Liverpool skipper saw his effort hit the outside of the post.

The visitors came close again soon after when Mignolet denied Skrtel before they finally found the breakthrough. Raheem Sterling sent a cross into the box and Luis Suarez pounced to make it 1-1.

Liverpool almost found a winner ten minutes from time when Shelvey saw his shot well saved by Mignolet before Suarez headed over.

Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages, however, as the match finished 1-1.
