Brendan Rodgers: 'We gained a lot from Manchester United defeat last season'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits that his side's loss to Manchester United last season at Old Trafford was a turning point in their campaign.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that his side's loss to Manchester United last season helped them regain their identity.

The Reds lost 3-0 at Old Trafford despite having numerous good chances as Raheem Sterling was denied on several occasions by David de Gea.

However, Rodgers's men went on a 13-match unbeaten run after their defeat, which he feels was the turning point in their season.

He told reporters: "It was probably the best defeat I've ever had. You never want to lose the game but I saw enough in that day to know we had actually got our identity back.

"We should have scored goals but ultimately lost the game because we didn't defend well enough. From that moment we then kicked on and had a good spell."

Liverpool face United at Old Trafford later today.
