Steven Gerrard: 'Liverpool need to pass better'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits that the team must work on their passing game after letting Sunderland back into their Premier League match at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard has said that Liverpool must work on their passing in order to help them close out games in the Premier League.

The Anfield side appeared to be cruising during their match against Sunderland this evening, but a goal from Ki Sung-Yueng brought the visitors back into the tie late on. However, the Reds held on for a 2-1 win.

The captain, who scored the opening goal of the game, told Sky Sports News: "You have to give credit to Sunderland, they have come to make it difficult for us, they were difficult to break down. We need to learn that when we go two goals ahead we can't concede. We need to hold on and pass it better.

"I don't usually get a go at free kicks! Luis Suarez has been magnificent from set-pieces so I leave them to him but sometimes the keeper expects him to take it so you take another option.

"It doesn't matter who gets the goals, we all deserve credit because we are in fantastic position but we haven't won anything yet."

The result leaves Liverpool second in the table, one point behind leaders Chelsea.
