Georginio Wijnaldum hails Diogo Jota's start to life at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum admits that Diogo Jota is better than the Reds initially gave him credit for after his blistering start.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has lavished praise on Diogo Jota following his electrifying start to life at Anfield.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man is now a regular starter in Jurgen Klopp's star-studded attack and already boasts nine goals for Liverpool in all competitions.

Jota is gearing up for his first reunion with Wolves since his departure, and ahead of Sunday's game, Wijnaldum has admitted that the 24-year-old took the Premier League champions by surprise when he arrived in the summer.

Speaking to the official Liverpool website, Wijnaldum said: "I think he will be really happy to play against his old team. I'm always happy when I play against Newcastle because that's my only other team [in the Premier League].

"For him I think it's different because he played more seasons for Wolves than I played for Newcastle. For him I think it's much bigger than what I have with Newcastle. It's going to be a really, really big game for him and also a game he can enjoy.

"I'm really impressed because I already knew how good he was, but now I can see that he's even better than what we thought of him.

"Now we train with him, we play games with him, so we can really see what kind of player he is, what kind of quality player he is. I think he's showed it with the start he's had at the club."

Jota will be expected to start against his former employers as Liverpool look to keep the pressure on leaders Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently top of the rankings on goal difference.
