Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool strikers impressed against Southampton'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praises the efforts of his strikers after his side's 6-1 League Cup win at Southampton, as Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi net braces.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised the efforts of his strikers following his side's 6-1 victory over Southampton this evening.

The Reds progressed to the semi-finals of the League Cup with the help of braces from Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi, and the former Borussia Dortmund coach admits that he now understands the impact that the former can have for his team.

"We had a good evening," Klopp told Sky Sports News. "Good game, bad start, but we strike back. In the end we had those moments not too often that you can enjoy the game in the last five minutes. I'm very thankful to my team.

"If you score six goals you have to talk about the goalscorers, and it was not too bad what Sturridge did after his long break. Now I know about what everyone else is talking because I saw it live in the stadium - it was not so bad.

"For Divock it was not so easy, for him as a young striker he knows he has to learn. For this you need some time to play, that's what we gave him tonight, and he did great."

Liverpool will take on Stoke City in the semi-finals of the League Cup in January.
