Rene Girard confident Lille can compete on two fronts

Lille manager Rene Girard says that his side can compete for Champions League football and the French Cup this season.

Lille manager Rene Girard believes that his side have what it takes to challenge for Champions League football as well as the Coupe de France.

The six-times French cup winners take on amateur outfit Caen this evening for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition, and sit in third place in Ligue 1.

"We have the means to carry out these goals [in league and cup]," he told reporters ahead of the cup tie.

"[But] it is never a foregone conclusion. In this event any team is capable of a winning and can be dangerous.

"The Coupe de France has more flavour than the league cup, and remains something attractive [to us]."

Lille last lifted the Coupe de France in 2011 when they defeat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final.
