Leeds United hold Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road despite playing much of the second half with 10 men after Luis Sinisterra was sent off.

Leeds United have held Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road despite playing much of the second half with 10 men.

Luis Sinisterra was sent off just three minutes after the interval when referee Stuart Attwell showed him a second yellow card for blocking Aston Villa from taking a free kick.

It was a cheap sending-off for the hosts to suffer, leaving manager Jesse Marsch with his head in his hands as he watched on from the press box while serving a touchline ban.

However, the American will have been happy with the resolve his side showed despite their numerical disadvantage, keeping Villa at bay with a combination of stubborn defending, Illan Meslier saves and help from the woodwork.

The closest Villa came to breaking the deadlock arrived just three minutes after the red card when Philippe Coutinho's brilliant volley came back off the post and Ollie Watkins could not turn home the rebound from close range.

Watkins was guilty of squandering other chances throughout a fiery clash too, including a one on one in the dying stages which Meslier did well to smother.

Leeds almost snatched a smash-and-grab victory at the death, only being denied by a fine last-ditch challenge from John McGinn, but in the end they will be content with a point having only had one shot on target to Aston Villa's seven.

It is also a first clean sheet since August for a Leeds side that shipped five at Brentford last time out, while Villa are now unbeaten in three but remain 14th in the table.

Steven Gerrard's side remain winless away from home since their last trip to Elland Road in March, whereas Leeds are still yet to taste defeat in front of their own fans this season.
