Juventus leave it late to beat Roma

Leonardo Bonucci's late volley earns Juventus a thrilling 3-2 win at home to title rivals Roma in Serie A.

Leonardo Bonucci's late volley has given Juventus an important 3-2 win at home to Serie A title rivals Roma.

The victory has seen the defending champions move three points clear of Roma at the top of the table after six matches.

The hosts made the breakthrough on 27 minutes when Carlos Tevez converted from the penalty spot for his sixth goal of the season after Maicon had handled inside the box.

Roma equalised with a spot kick of their own just five minutes later as Francesco Totti scored following a foul by Stephan Lichtsteiner on the veteran forward.

The visitors then took the lead with a minute remaining in the half thanks to Juan Iturbe's low finish past Gianluigi Buffon.

However, Juve drew themselves level in first-half stoppage time when Tevez scored his second penalty of the match after Miralem Pjanic was adjudged to have tripped Paul Pogba.

Pogba was in the thick of the action during the opening 15 minutes of the second half, firing over with a long-range effort before hitting another shot wide.

Roma threatened on the hour when Pjanic almost scored on the angle, while Alvaro Morata saw his header hit the woodwork with 10 minutes left to play as both sides went for the win.

With time running out, Juventus earned themselves three vital points when Bonucci found the net with a stunning 25-yard volley as Roma were made to pay for not clearing a corner.

An ill-tempered match then ended on a sour note as Morata and Kostas Manolas were both sent off after the pair instigated a brawl between the two sets of players.
