David Wagner: 'Huddersfield achieved impossible with Manchester City shutout'

Wagner: 'Clean sheet looked impossible'

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner says that his side achieved "the impossible" by registering a 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has hailed his players after a goalless draw was recorded in Sunday's Premier League fixture at Manchester City.

The Terriers went into the game sitting two points above the relegation zone but facing the prospect of taking on City, Chelsea and Arsenal in their remaining three games.

Champions City were fancied to run out convincing winners at the Etihad Stadium but Huddersfield became the first top-flight side to keep out Pep Guardiola's outfit in front of their own supporters, leading to Wagner to claim that "the impossible" had been achieved.

The 46-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live: "In football sometimes the impossible is possible. For sure before the game a clean sheet and getting a point looked impossible, but the players have done it and done it again.

"It makes this even bigger that a club of our size and circumstances, who are with no disrespect more like a League One club more than a Premier League club, can stick together and believe. That makes us special as a football club."

Swansea City and Southampton must both record a win apiece to force Huddersfield to earn another positive result in order to retain their Premier League status.
