Marco Borriello strikes down Bologna in Genoa

Marco Borriello scores twice for Genoa in their 2-0 defeat of Bologna, who finish the Serie A encounter in Florence with 10 men.

Genoa have defeated Bologna 2-0 at home to move a point and a place clear of the relegation zone in Serie A.

The home side were on the backfoot for much of the first half, as Alberto Gilardino forced a save out of Sebastien Frey, who also had to take care of a disappointing backpass from Andreas Granqvist.

Daniele Portanova had another chance for Bologna in the first half but he failed to make the most of his volley.

The start of the second half saw Genoa take control of the match from Bologna and go 1-0 up on 58 minutes.

Marco Borriello played a good one-two with Ciro Immobile before finishing the move with ease.

The Italian striker wrapped up the points for Genoa in the 73rd with his second goal of the afternoon, as he smashed the ball home from the edge of the Bologna penalty area.

The visitors ended the game with 10 men, as Tiberio Guarente was sent off for a second bookable offence.
