Roberto Martinez: 'Tim Howard will return against Sunderland'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez reveals that goalkeeper Tim Howard will retain his place for the upcoming visiting of Sunderland.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that he will reinstate Tim Howard in goal for Everton's home clash against Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

The American goalkeeper was rested for yesterday's League Cup tie with Norwich City amid scrutiny over his performances in recent months.

His replacement, Joel Robles, was praised for the display that he put in during that game, but when asked by reporters if Howard would also sit out the visit of the Black Cats, Martinez responded: "No, that's very clear.

"Tim's got incredible standards, he cannot be happy with the goals he conceded at the weekend. But there's no doubt in terms of Tim Howard's starting ability."

Thirty-six-year-old Howard joined the Toffees from Manchester United in 2006.
