Jamie Carragher: 'If Everton want new manager, sack Roberto Martinez tomorrow'

Jamie Carragher tells Everton that they should sack Roberto Martinez tomorrow if they have already decided to appoint a new manager for next season.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has called on Everton to sack Roberto Martinez tomorrow if they have decided to search for a new manager.

The Spaniard has been under intense pressure in the last few months after guiding the team to just two wins in their last 10 Premier League games.

The Merseyside outfit could finish lower than last season's 11th-place finish as they are currently 12th in the table, two points behind Swansea City with one game left to play.

Tonight, they were undone 3-0 by Sunderland, who sealed their top-flight safety with the result.

Carragher believes that Everton's board need to make a swift decision regarding Martinez, who has been the subject of protests from disgruntled supporters.

"If [chairman] Bill Kenwright and the new owner want a new manager they should get rid of Martinez tomorrow," Carragher told Sky Sports News. "Everton have a fanatical support home and away but I couldn't believe how many empty seats there were in the away end [at the Stadium of Light tonight].

"There are very few, if any, supporters wanting him to stay in the job and there could be a poisonous reaction to Martinez at the weekend."

Everton have won 10 of their 37 league games this season.
