Chelsea announce Kai Havertz arrival on five-year deal

Chelsea confirm the signing of 21-year-old Germany international Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old was linked to a number of Europe's top clubs in recent months, but Chelsea have now won the race for his signature in a deal which is thought to be worth up to £70m.

The Germany international left his national team's training camp earlier today to undergo a medical and finalise a move, putting pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2025.

"I am very happy and proud to be here, For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can't wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!" Havertz told the club's official website.

Director Marina Granovskaia added: "Kai is one of the best players of his age in world football, so we are very happy that his future lies at Chelsea.

"He has proven pedigree in one of the best leagues in Europe, he plays for the German national side and he is an exciting, dynamic talent. We are delighted to be able to add his versatility and quality to the squad before the season begins."

The arrival of Havertz, which is understood to fall just short of Chelsea's record buy, takes their spending to more than £200m already this summer.

Frank Lampard's side have also brought in Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr, Xavier Mbuyamba and Havertz's international teammate Timo Werner.
