Montreal Impact deny Didier Drogba contact

MLS side Montreal Impact deny speculation that there has been contact from Chelsea over star striker Didier Drogba.

Montreal Impact have issued a statement dismissing speculation of Didier Drogba returning to Chelsea as "unfounded".

A report in African newspaper Jeune Afrique claimed that Blues owner Roman Abramovich had called the Ivorian striker hours after sacking Jose Mourinho with an offer for him to return to Stamford Bridge as part of a new coaching setup.

In a post on Twitter this evening, the Canadian MLS outfit said of the report: "The rumour about Didier Drogba is unfounded. No contact has been made with the club or him."

Drogba found the net 11 times in 11 appearances for the side after joining in the middle of the 2015 MLS season, and has one further season remaining on his contract in North America.

The 37-year-old had two stints at Chelsea spanning 11 years, winning four league titles and the 2012 Champions League final.
