Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp insists that his philosophy at the club is relatively easy and nothing new.

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has played down praise directed at his side's style of play.

Dortmund have the lowest income and cheapest squad of any of the remaining four teams in this season's Champions League but are still heavy favourites to reach the final after thrashing Real Madrid 4-1 in their semi-final first leg last week.

Klopp is enjoying a growing reputation in football due to the style of football his side employ, but the 45-year-old insists that he has not come up with anything new.

"It is a relatively easy philosophy. We need to defend well if we are to score many goals. It is easy, the team needs to play together closely, in a very solid way," said Klopp.

"It is important to keep our discipline. If we score a goal we need to defend it, but we need to be daring. We need to score a second. That is the idea we have day by day.

"We've had this idea for a long time. It is not only my idea, it is the idea of the whole team. I haven't invented football."

Dortmund face Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final tomorrow night.
