Marc Albrighton believes that it was "massively important" for Aston Villa to end their four-game losing run with Saturday's 0-0 draw against Southampton.

Marc Albrighton has claimed that it was "massively important" for Aston Villa to stop their losing run with Saturday's draw against Southampton.

The Villans, who had lost their previous four matches, earned a goalless draw at Villa Park to move themselves five points clear of the drop zone.

"Just to stop the rot of the defeats was massively important and we've done that," Albrighton is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"We worked hard for each other, there was a great atmosphere around the place and it was a successful day I think. I can't remember one point where it felt negative.

"Southampton will always play a possession game, they kept the ball well and we did struggle to get near them, but second half we took the game to them and created some good chances."

Villa are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Swansea City.
