Monaco stay second after goalless draw with Benfica

Monaco stay second in Group C after a 0-0 draw at home to Benfica in the Champions League.

Monaco stayed second in Group C after a 0-0 draw at home to Benfica in the Champions League this evening.

Lucas Ocampos spurned a glorious early opportunity for Monaco when the ball bobbled off the surface inside the area to force him to fire over.

The French side had Ricardo Carvalho to thank for keeping the game at 0-0 when the Portuguese defender made a block to deny Lima's goal-bound effort.

Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic was alert towards the end of the half to stop Lima's effort as the home side held on to take the draw in at the break.

Anthony Martial went close for the hosts three minutes into the second period when he flashed a shot wide of the post before Subasic denied Nicolas Gaitan just before the hour mark.

Lisandro Lopez was sent off for Benfica with 11 minutes of normal time remaining for a studs-first challenge on Joao Moutinho.
