Caretaker Uruguay manager Fabian Coito does not believe that the calf strain sustained by Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on international duty is anything serious.

Caretaker Uruguay manager Fabian Coito has played down the severity of the injury sustained by midfielder Lucas Torreira during this weekend's international friendly with Mexico.

Arsenal's Torreira was forced off at half time of Uruguay's eventual 4-1 victory and was later spotted with ice strapped to his lower leg on the bench.

The calf injury raised concerns that the £22m summer signing could miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, but Coito does not believe that it is a serious problem.

"I took Torreira out as a precaution," Coito told reporters after the match.

The Uruguay international is yet to start for Arsenal, with Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka so far being preferred in the holding midfield role by manager Unai Emery.
