Taylor Swift tops UK albums chart for second time in 2020

Taylor Swift's second surprise album of 2020, evermore, goes straight in at number one on the UK chart.

Taylor Swift has topped the UK albums chart with her surprise new album evermore, according to data from the Official Charts Company.

The singer-songwriter dropped the record with less than 24 hours' notice and it duly notched up the most downloads and streams over the week to storm to number one.

Earlier this year she also reached the summit with Folklore, making her the first artist to claim two chart-toppers in the same calendar year since David Bowie managed the feat following his untimely death in 2016.

On the singles chart, Swift debuts at three with the album's lead single 'Willow', while album tracks 'Champagne Problems' and 'No Body, No Crime' - the latter featuring Haim - open at 15 and 19 respectively.

Having been made to wait 26 years to top the chart with 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' last week, Mariah Carey racks up a second week on top this week - keeping Wham's 'Last Christmas', the biggest-selling song ever not to make number one, at a frustrating number two.
