Piers Morgan admits that he is "in talks" about new career opportunities following his abrupt Good Morning Britain exit.

Piers Morgan has admitted that he is "in talks with people" after his abrupt exit from Good Morning Britain yesterday.

The 55-year-old tendered his resignation to ITV after refusing to apologise for his fierce criticism of Meghan Markle during Monday morning's edition of the breakfast programme.

Morgan's decision to quit came just hours after TV regulator Ofcom announced that it was launching an investigation into the notoriously pugnacious presenter, whose remarks questioning the credibility of the Duchess of Sussex prompted more than 41,000 viewers to file complaints.

Immediately after ITV's announcement, Morgan's name began trending on Twitter alongside GB News, the forthcoming opinion-led news channel from Andrew Neil which has previously courted his services.

Appearing outside his London home this morning, Morgan told Sky News: "I think it's fair to say that even though the woke crowd think that they've cancelled me, I think they'll be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

"I'm in talks with people and there's plenty of time to decide."

On Markle, he added: "I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to The Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."

Good Morning Britain returned to the air this morning with Ranvir Singh stepping in for Morgan alongside Susanna Reid.
