Netflix announces a two-season renewal for acclaimed LGBT drama Heartstopper.

Netflix has announced that acclaimed LGBT drama Heartstopper will be back for both a second and third season.

The show, which stars Joe Locke and Kit Connor as two teens in a coming-of-age love story, debuted on the streaming service last month and has ranked top 10 in 54 countries.

Alice Oseman, whose graphic novels inspired the series, will return as writer of the second and third seasons, which are likely to be released in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Announcing the renewal today, she said: "We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can't wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!"

Executive producer Patrick Walters added: "We put so much love into the making of Heartstopper so to reassemble the team for two more seasons is a dream come true.

"I'm forever grateful to Alice Oseman for entrusting us with this beautiful, unique story that at its core seeks to uplift the next generation of young LGBTQ+ people. Stay tuned!"

All of the main cast members, including Locke, Connor, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell, are expected to return for the new episodes.
