Sky Sports says that a peak of more than 4 million viewers tuned in for the EFL Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

A peak of 4 million viewers tuned in to see Liverpool win the EFL Cup on Sunday afternoon, according to early ratings data.

After 90 minutes and extra time had failed to separate the Reds and opponents Chelsea at Wembley, the game went down to a tense penalty shootout - with Jurgen Klopp's side eventually prevailing 11-10.

The game itself averaged an impressive 3.16m viewers on Sky Sports - an EFL Cup final record - while coverage of the match introduced new camera technologies, including the "Super Slow Spidercam" and the "Super Slow Steadicam".

Gary Hughes, Sky Sports' director of football, said of the figures: "It was a brilliant final and great occasion to introduce the new cameras - bringing over 4 million fans even closer to the action."

Ratings figures do not take account of the audience watching coverage in pubs, bars and other non-household settings.
