Strictly Come Dancing contestants could be forced to wear The Masked Singer-style costumes under safety measures being considered by producers.

Strictly Come Dancing producers have reportedly been taking inspiration from ITV's The Masked Singer as they prepare for this year's series.

The BBC is determined that the show will go ahead as planned this autumn, despite the massive production headache caused by the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Producers are considering multiple measures to ensure that the show complies with social distancing guidelines, including staging performances outdoors and having contestants compete while wearing protective costumes.

A source told The Sun: "Production are looking at all possibilities and are warming to the idea of theatrical masks as part of the costumes, having seen the success of The Masked Singer on ITV.

"Location-wise they are considering scenic locations from rooftops, gardens to town squares and historical ballrooms – anywhere which not only looks great, but can work without a studio audience.

"Crew can come in and prepare the scene, light it beautifully, display props and set up cameras and get out of the way for the celebrity couple's big performance."

The new series is due to begin in September.
