Paul Mescal unfazed watching sex scenes in Normal People

Normal People heartthrob Paul Mescal admits that he has got used to watching himself naked on the show.

Normal People star Paul Mescal has admitted that he has got used to watching his on-screen sex scenes in the teen drama.

The show has received almost universal acclaim and has been watched more than 28 million times since it debuted on iPlayer at the end of last month.

Across the 12 episodes, a total of 41 minutes of screentime feature Mescal's character Connell engaging in sexual activity with Marianne (Daisy Edgar-Jones), with both actors appearing fully nude in multiple scenes.

"I think I'm good as disassociating myself from Connell and it does make watching it a little less painful," the 24-year-old told Radio 1. "The nudity in the show has become normal to me.

"Like the episodes that went on BBC One [on Monday]. There was like a full-on... full-frontal shot in that episode!

"But it's a different thing for me than it is my family, than it is my friends, than it is to like 'normal people' watching the show."

Earlier this week Normal People's "intimacy co-ordinator" lifted the lid on how the show's sexual content was filmed.
