The Capture to return for second series without Callum Turner

The BBC confirms a second series for hit mystery-drama The Capture, but Callum Turner will not be returning.

The BBC has confirmed that mystery drama The Capture has been renewed for a second series.

The show was a surprise hit and ranked as the top show on BBC iPlayer in 2019, receiving almost 22 million requests to date.

The first series followed Detective Inspector Rachel Carey (Holliday Grainger) as she investigated Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (Callum Turner), who has been arrested for a horrific crime he insists he did not commit.

Grainger will reprise her role for the new run but Turner will not, as producers adopt the Line of Duty format that sees them switch focus to a new case every series.

Ben Chanan, the show's creator, writer and director, said: "I am thrilled to be joining forces with the BBC, Heyday and NBCUniversal International Studios again. The Capture series two will see Rachel Carey fall deeper into the dizzying world of fakery and disinformation. She has only just scratched the surface of this conspiracy."

Grainger added: "I'm excited to be joining Ben Chanan and the team for series two of The Capture. Ben's meticulously researched world challenges the boundary between possible and probable dark truths and constantly keeps you guessing. I can't wait to explore what he has in store for Rachel Carey next."

Series one of The Capture is available in full on iPlayer.
