The Big Breakfast to return to Channel 4 for one-off special

Channel 4 is to bring back The Big Breakfast for a one-off live special with Mo Gilligan next Autumn.

Channel 4 is to resurrect The Big Breakfast for a live one-off special next Autumn, it has been announced.

The iconic show was a staple of Channel 4's morning schedule between 1992 and 2002 and launched the TV careers of Chris Evans, Gaby Roslin and Denise Van Outen.

Comedian Mo Gilligan will host the show's one-off return as the launch programme on Channel 4's Black Takeover Day, where the entire schedule will be handed over to programming made by and starring black talent.

"Like so many of us, I loved The Big Breakfast," said Gilligan. "I am so grateful to be asked to host this special event, particularly as part of such a hugely thrilling and history-making day for British television!"

The original show was broadcast from the Lock Keepers' Cottages in Bow Locks, East London, although it is unclear whether the venue will be available for the revival.
