Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd dies, aged 56

Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd dies at the age of 56 after a battle with cancer.

Scrubs star Sam Lloyd has died at the age of 56, it has been confirmed.

The actor - lawyer Ted Buckland on the cult medical comedy - was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in January 2019 just after the birth of his first son.

Lloyd subsequently discovered that cancer had spread to his lungs, liver, spine and jaw and had been in a coma for almost two months prior to his death on Thursday.

Scrubs producer Robert Weston announced the news on a GoFundMe page to help with his medical bills, writing: "Our dear sweet Sammy has passed away.

"For 13 months Sam lived life to the fullest, treasuring every moment. He saw his son, Weston, turn 1, he was able to hold his mom's hand as she took her last breath, and as Sam always loved to say, 'he made music along the way'.

"At the end of 2019, Sam found out that the targeted therapy drug which had given him such a miraculous second chance had lost its effectiveness. Determined to live, and with so much to live for, Sam fought hard, enduring multiple brain surgeries, and endless tests and procedures.

"But alas it was time for Sam to leave this world. A world that he made a better place every day of his life. Rest in peace sweet, sweet Sammy boy."

As well as his role on Scrubs, Lloyd also had parts in Desperate Housewives, Malcolm in the Middle and The West Wing during his career.
