Ricky Gervais rules out David Brent return

Ricky Gervais rules out a future return for The Office and an ageing David Brent.

Ricky Gervais has ruled out resurrecting The Office again, reasoning that it would be "too sad" to see a 60-year-old David Brent.

The classic comedy, which saw Gervais star as a cringeworthy office manager at a paper company in Slough, ran for two series and a two-part Christmas special between 2001 and 2003.

Gervais revived the character for a one-off movie, David Brent: Life on the Road, in 2016 but now says that we have seen the last of the chilled-out entertainer.

"I don't think I'll ever bring back the old favourites," Gervais told The Sun. "People think they want more, but they don't.

"They just want the feeling they had when they saw it for the first time. David Brent at 60 is too sad."

The second season of Gervais's acclaimed Netflix comedy After Life is due for release next Friday.
